CIMSA, UNESCO Indonesia, and Voice of Indonesia on International Day of Peace 2019

Now, our ocean is facing crisis due to pollutions resulting ocean pollution. Every minute, one truk worth of garbage is thrown into the ocean! The ocean pollutants cause marine animals to be polluted which can cause a decrease in number of marine animals, resulting in short of supply for food. It is also believed that the ocean pollution linked to climate change as its role as climate regulator. Ocean pollution in many ways can lead to famine, increased poverty and conflicts as well give clear threats to international peace and security everywhere in the world.

To commemorate International Day of Peace 2019, SCORP-CIMSA holds social media campaign and air campaign regarding topic Ocean Pollution Towards Peace. This campaign aims to tell the society that they can be the solution of ocean pollution by doing actions to prevent further pollution. CIMSA, represented by Gagas (PC SCORP CIMSA 2019/2020), had the opportunity to discuss about “Bits to Beat Ocean Pollution” with Ms. Ainun Fadhila Kusuma Wardhani (UNESCO Social & Human Sciences Unit) at Voice of Indonesia. 

The discussion was about the background of ocean pollution, global and local actions have been conducted by UNESCO in managing ocean pollution, actions taken from CIMSA as a medical student organization about the ocean pollution and peace.
